History Many articles and even books have been written about the history of all cur dogs. But no one book tells about the history of the early Cur dogs better than The Big Thicket Legacy, written by Campbell and Lynn Loughmiller. The book was written about the people and early times of frontier life in the area of southeast Texas. Much was said about the Cur Dogs because they were a big part of everyday life. They helped in many ways, in the settling of that part of wild country known as the The Big Thicket. No one book, tells the story of a breed of dogs - like this one tells of the American Black Mouth Cur dogs. In the book they just called them plain cur dogs. Plant and animal life was found there in the thicket, that could not be found anywhere else on the North American continent . The Big Thicket Legacy is a collection of writings by people who lived in the big Thicket in the 1800's. Read on for quotes and story excerpts from the book by Mr. Leak Bevel. These were times when Mr. Carter Hart says, "Mr. Ben Lilly was there for a while to hunt with Ben and Bud Hooks,...at that time Ben Lilly was just another hunter (1907)."
